Abstract:

"The talk will introduce the techniques that can be used to investigate the assembly and function of ribonucleoprotein complexes (RNPs). This includes iCLIP, a method combining multi-step biochemistry and computational biology to obtain a comprehensive map of protein-RNA interactions within cells. I will present our study of paraspeckles, a large RNP that behaves like a liquid droplet inside cell's nucleus and affects the exit of stem cells from pluripotency. I will also discuss the forces that drive the regulation of RNAs, and how faulty RNPs might lead to conditions affecting the nervous system, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis."
