Innovations Wanted: International Laser Prize in Production, Medicine and Biotechnology

Ditzingen, Germany (ots) - The 2004 International Berthold Leibinger Innovationspreis is now open to applicants who have contributed outstanding innovations to applied laser physics through development and research in the fields of production, laser medicine or biotechnology. The private foundation Berthold Leibinger Stiftung awards three prizes in the amounts of 20,000 Euros, 10,000 Euros, and 5,000 Euros. The closing date for submission is November 30, 2003.

For the first time, the competition is also open to proposals of first-rate research and development work. Proposed work will only be made public if it is nominated by the jury.

Important criteria are advancements in practical applications or benefits to healthcare recipients. The international jury, made up of experts and leading figures from industry and science, evaluates submitted work for its progress of scientific findings in relation to the state of the art as well as its scientific creativity and quality.

From personal applications and proposals, the jury will nominate a maximum of eight works. Then, at the invitation of the Berthold Leibinger Stiftung, the nominees will have the opportunity to personally present their innovations to the jury in the spring of 2004.

The Berthold Leibinger Stiftung awards the biannual prize to foster advances in research and development in laser technology and to showcase the results to the public.
