Fraport Traffic Figures - July 2004: Strong Growth Continues at Frankfurt Airport / Passenger Count Increases by 5.6 Percent - Airfreight Records a Growth Rate of 16 Percent

Frankfurt/Main, Germany - The largest German airport once again registered noticeable growth rates in July in comparison to July 2003. Almost 4.8 million passengers were counted last month which is 5.6 percent more than in July last year. In regard to passengers this has been the highest count for any single month during the current year.

Tourists spots in Mediterranean region, specifically Spain, were heavily in demand. Vacation flights to Egypt and Tunisia were likewise booked frequently. Intercontinental traffic too continues to generate growth in the number of passengers. The passenger count for flights from and to the Far East was up by approximately 20 percent in comparison to July 2003.

Airfreight likewise continues to boom. In July 2004, FRA handled 146,188 metric tons of airfreight, 16 percent more than in the same period last year - thus achieving the best July result ever. Airfreight to and from Asia increased by 10.3 percent, North America by 18.4 percent and Europe by even 20.2 percent. The airmail volume handled at Frankfurt Airport was 9,348 metric tons in July (minus 6.6 percent in comparison to July 2003) because German Postal Services continues its service reductions in the domestic overnight airmail network based at FRA.

With 42,200 takeoffs and landings in July 2004, Frankfurt Airport recorded a 5.3 percent increase in aircraft movements compared to the corresponding month last year. The growth rate is based on more intercontinental traffic and an increasing number of flights to and from eastern Europe.

Higher growth was recorded for the maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs). Over 2.44 million tons add up to an increase of 9.5 percent because of bigger and heavier aircraft.

The Fraport Group served a total of 7,907,179 passengers in July 2004, some 10.5 percent more than in July 2003. With 1,791,100 passengers, Antalya Airport (AYT) registered a 26.3 percent increase. Lima Airport (LIM) grew by 11.8 percent with 477,833 passengers. The booming low cost Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN) reported 262,583 passengers in July which is a plus of 16.8 percent, Hanover Airport (HAJ) grew by 6.5 percent with 572,983 passengers. Only Saarbrücken Airport (SCN) with 50,155 passengers showed a small minus of 0.3 percent.

Total cargo throughput for the Fraport Group reached 200,642 metric tons in July 2004 (plus 23.6 percent). The Fraport Group's airports had a total of 69,705 takeoffs and landings in July 2004, 6.2 percent more than in the same month last year.
