Nippon Express Inaugurates European Airfreight Terminal at Frankfurt Airport / CargoCity South Has Become Global Success Story: Location, Location, Location

Frankfurt/Main, Germany (ots) - Nippon Express (Deutschland) GmbH will inaugurate its new EUR 8.5 million European logistics and airfreight terminal tomorrow at Frankfurt Airport's CargoCity South development area. One of the world's largest logistics service providers, Nippon Express of Japan, will use the 14,500 square-meter site as the new base for its European and Frankfurt branch operations - employing a total of more than 100 people. Featuring about 6,000 square meters of storage and handling space and 2,200 square meters of office space (over two levels), the facility is strategically located on-airport and in the heart of the European market. Handling approximately 1.7 million metric tons of airfreight and airmail in 2003, FRA is Europe's leading air cargo gateway and ranks number eight worldwide (ACI figures).

"Another building block in the CargoCity South success story has been put into place with the location of this renowned Japanese company at Frankfurt Airport," said Prof. Manfred Schölch, executive board vice chairman of Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide (the owner and manager of FRA). "The inauguration of Nippon Express' new European base will significantly enhance the international character of the Frankfurt Airport cargo hub," Schölch emphasized. Comprising 98 hectares at the southern side of Frankfurt Airport, CargoCity South has already attracted an impressive group of major European and international logistics companies. "We have quickly reached our ambitious goal of marketing the CargoCity South development area, with most of the available sites already gone." Schölch also indicated that there is strong demand for the few remaining CargoCity South sites. Customers are attracted by Frankfurt Airport's excellent infrastructure, customized service packages, outstanding intermodal transportation links, as well as its unique and high-performance hub function. The success of CargoCity South also underscores the strength of Frankfurt Airport for real estate opportunities.
