ROLAND EMMERICH FORMS ALLIANCE WITH GERMAN MEDIA FUND VIP
LOS ANGELES--Hollywood director Roland Emmerich has signed a first look deal for his non-studio related projects with Germany's largest media fund VIP (Monster, The Punisher). The parties intend to co-found a production company during the course of autumn 2004 in Munich, Germany, and are currently discussing initial projects. VIP's chairman Andreas Schmid wants to spur growth to his fast-developing activities in international film finance and production by cooperating with Roland Emmerich. Roland is one of the world's most successful directors, with films such as Stargate, Independence Day, The Patriot and, most recently, The Day After Tomorrow which enjoyed worldwide commercial and critical success this past summer.
"Andreas' filmmaker-friendly approach to financing and producing pictures fits well with my own approach to movie-making. It also gives me the opportunity to work with a well-established German partner, which I have always wanted to do," commented Roland on the deal.
