Applied Plasmonics Chosen for Tech50 List

-- Selection includes developing innovative and disruptive technologies

GAINESVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 18, 2007--Applied Plasmonics, Inc., the first commercial company to generate visible light with simple CMOS, announced today that it has been selected by "TechJournal South" as one of the most promising tech firms launched in the Southeast since 2000. The Tech50 selection criteria focuses on a variety of elements, such as unique technology, management team, market potential and market execution. Nominations were obtained from venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, and economic development executives.

Allan Maurer, Editor of the TechJournal, stated "We're excited about the present and the future of the Southeast technology community. Vibrant, strong start-ups from DC through South Florida are developing innovative and disruptive technologies that will change the face of their industries." Maurer continued, "We had a difficult time in selecting only 50 companies, but we feel this list represents a solid cross section of the Southeast technology scene."

Applied Plasmonics is a fabless semiconductor company that has invented a practical, mass-market use for devices based on surface plasmons, and already has more than 160 patent applications. The new technology employs nano-antennas manufactured in a single layer of metal to generate visible light.

Henry Davis, Chief Operating and Financial Officer of Applied Plasmonics, commented, "Selection to the Tech50 list is an acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of the entire staff of Applied Plasmonics. Bringing a break-through technology from inception to commercialization takes talent, teamwork and persistence. We're very pleased to be awarded this recognition."
