"Viruses are the most important pathogens of cucurbitaceous crops worldwide. Cucurbit viruses are a dynamic and diverse group of pathogens, based on the number of species, their diversity and differences in the biological, epidemiological and molecular characteristics, which explains the occasional occurrence of epidemics and difficulties in virus control. More than 50 viruses have been isolated from different cucurbits so far and some of them represent a serious threat to successful cucurbit production worldwide. The potyviruses Zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV), Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV), and Papaya ringspot virus (PRSV), and the cucumovirus Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) are the most commonly reported aphid-borne viruses infecting cucurbits. In some areas very important damages are caused by Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) a bipartite, whitefly-transmitted, begomovirus. This presentation will tackle the most important aspect of cucurbit viruses, their presence and distribution, biological and molecular characterisation, and disease epidemiology of some of the most important cucurbit viruses."

Vljudno vabljeni! Seminar bo potekal v angleškem jeziku. / You are cordially invited to attend this lecture, which will be delivered in English.
