Refugees in Germany have been issued with a special refugee identity card or "proof of arrival" since 28 January 2016. The registration of refugees is being carried out using a new system that will gradually be introduced nationwide by mid-2016. A core element of this is the recording of refugees using their ten fingerprints, in order to provide a secure and reliable method of identification. The fingerprint scanner used for this ambitious project comes from Germany's largest biometrics manufacturer, the Hamburg-based company DERMALOG. The company will be showcasing its LF10 scanner, which is now being used for refugee registration, at CeBIT in Hanover next week (Hall 6, Stand F44), along with its Real-time AFIS, which can recognise people from their fingerprint in less than three seconds - even when using large databases.
Biometrics are also becoming increasingly prominent in our everyday lives. The Managing Director of DERMALOG, Günther Mull, explains: "The use of fingerprints is now gradually replacing PIN numbers and passwords, as biometrics is much more user-friendly. Biometrics is not only much more secure, but is also much more convenient than passwords." Market studies confirm that passwords will already be a thing of the past in about two years' time. Payments via fingerprint are also on their way in, as are fingerprint scanners on cash dispensers, which are gradually replacing the use of PIN numbers on these. Even a print job in the corporate network can be accessed by a user by means of his/her fingerprint, as DERMALOG will demonstrate at CeBIT with the uniFLOW output management solution from Canon. The latest facial and iris recognition technologies will also be on show at the DERMALOG stand at CeBIT.
A further highlight set to be unveiled by the company at the largest IT exhibition in the world is the world's first and only scanner that can scan fingerprints and passports via the same surface, the so-called VF1 combi scanner, which is particularly well suited for border control, banks and automatic gates. There is no longer a need to use two devices for checking passports and fingerprints, as the VF1 can do both in one device.
DERMALOG is Germany's biometrics pioneer and market leader. CeBIT offers an excellent opportunity to view DERMALOG's latest biometric innovations, on Stand F44 in Hall 6.
