Visteon Provides Practical and Affordable Technologies for the New-Generation European Ford Focus

KERPEN, Germany, Nov. 4, 2004 - The new-generation Ford Focus for the European market features a variety of Visteon (NYSE: VC) developed systems and technologies including the world's first halogen adaptive lighting system.

The new Ford Focus builds on the success of its predecessor, a car that has consistently dominated the sales charts across Europe and is recognized as being class-leading in styling, packaging and driving dynamics. For this important new-generation car, Visteon has worked closely with Ford to develop innovative technologies that are both affordable and accessible for the Focus driver.

Providing an industry-first application of the halogen Advanced Front Lighting System (AFS), Visteon's adaptive system is designed to adjust light distribution according to vehicle speed and direction. The low beam swivels dynamically and can significantly improve illumination in curves and while turning at intersections.

Superior quality, look and feel of the vehicle interior is of crucial importance in the new Ford Focus. Visteon supplies an instrument panel delivering a high level of craftsmanship, combining hard and soft surfaces in the same manufacturing process. The result is a softer touch and quality-feel more commonly seen in larger vehicles. Additionally, Visteon has engineered and manufactured the instrument cluster for the Focus.

Visteon's expertise in the development of climate control systems is recognized across the automotive industry. For the new Ford Focus, Visteon provides a dual-zone heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) system and has employed its D-EATC (Dual Electronic Automated Temperature Control) technology, which allows individual selection of temperatures for the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle.

Visteon, the second largest manufacturer of original equipment car radios globally, has teamed up with Sony to provide superior acoustics quality for Focus drivers. The relationship combines Sony's sound management capability with Visteon's electronics and vehicle integration expertise.

Visteon's leadership in developing components and systems that have an impact on performance, fuel economy and driving dynamics are also evident in other components supplied for this new model. The powertrain control module, halfshafts, steering, fuel vapor storage system, fuel delivery module, electronic throttle control, fuel charging assembly, intercooler, EGR cooler and the air induction system are also engineered and supplied by Visteon.

The Focus engine lineup boasts an impressive breadth of performance and economy from the1.4L gasoline engine up to the 2.0L direct-injection turbocharged diesel offering. Visteon's air induction system supports all engine variants with 60,000-kilometer (about 37,000-mile) servicing, European Stage V emission requirements, and engine-specific acoustic tuning to offer impressive levels of sound quality to the driver and passengers.

"Ford is a key customer with whom we share the same goals and expectations in the production of class-leading vehicles," said Andrew S. Gill, vice president of Visteon's Ford and PAG customer business group. "Our working relationship with Ford on this important new model has been very involved in key system areas and it is very rewarding to have been involved with a car that has been described as one of the most important new cars for the 2004/05 model year."
