TriQuint Releases Critical New Switch Module for WCDMA -- 3G -- Wireless Handsets; New Module is Optimized for Next-Gen WCDMA Wireless Phones; Delivers High-Linearity, Out-of-Band Blocking for Demanding 3G Requirements

BARCELONA, Spain & HILLSBORO, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2006--TriQuint Semiconductor (Nasdaq:TQNT) today announced the release of its latest fully optimized wideband code division multiple access (WCDMA) / GSM quad-band switch module for the RF front end of 3G (cellular) handsets. The new module is a key member of TriQuint's WCDMA total RF front-end strategy, announced February 8th.

The new module (p/n 890047) incorporates several 'discrete' (component-level) parts and matching circuits into a single package that occupies less space than the parts would require if used individually. The module also provides key functions that 3G handsets require to switch between WCDMA and GSM bands within a wireless phone. Combining these functions into a single module allows the manufacturer to build smaller, more compact (3G) mobile devices that consumers demand.

TriQuint's new switch module is a critical product for WCDMA (3G) wireless phone platforms and was designed in conjunction with a tier-one handset manufacturer for a new generation of multi-mode/multi-band/multi-function wireless devices. It utilizes a gallium arsenide (GaAs) pHEMT (enhancement mode pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistor) switch and diplexer to provide the critical function that switches highly sensitive phone signals between all WCDMA (IMT2100) and GSM bands (GSM-850/900/1800/1900) inside the handset. TriQuint's components provide the high linearity to support demanding 3G out-of-band blocking and GSM harmonic requirements needed to fully satisfy WCDMA specifications.

TriQuint's new switch module is among a family of products to be released in 2006 to support the rigorous multi-mode switching requirements common to 3G handset specifications as outlined in the company's WCDMA total RF front-end strategy announced February 8th.

"TriQuint is committed to our long-term strategy of working in cooperation with our transceiver and handset partners to develop highly integrated solutions that resolve the many challenges associated with new multi-mode 3G handsets," said Berry Leonard, Product Marketing Manager, TriQuint Semiconductor.

The switch inside TriQuint's new module was designed using the company's GaAs E/D (enhancement- / depletion-mode) pHEMT process, while the diplexer was engineered using TriQuint's thin film integrated GaAs passive technology.

See TriQuint's newest module at the company's GSM World Congress exhibition (Hall 2, Space H75) in Barcelona, Spain (13th-16th February). The GSM World Congress is the largest convention and exhibition dedicated to GSM wireless communications, now with more than 2 billion global subscribers.

Samples of the 890047 WCDMA (3G) switch module are currently available.
