Sturgeon and caviar from aquaculture: United Food Technologies AG leads a successful new project
Weinheim/Jessen. Caviar has become one of the rarest and most expensive delicacies. Over-fishing of sturgeon stocks in the wild mean that the high demand can only be covered using sustainable aquaculture. United Food Technologies AG (UFT) has long-standing experience and leading expertise in this field. The company is currently leading a successful new project in Germany (Jessen/ Sachsen-Anhalt).
The operators of this aquaculture facility commissioned UFT with undertaking the complete planning, project development and implementation of the site. Following several months of building work, the start-up phase for the new site began with the introduction of the first 2,500 sturgeon (Acipenser Baerii = Siberian sturgeon) on Thursday 13th December. Further transportations will be carried out in the first quarter of 2008 until all of the breeding basins are filled. The age of the fish is between 9 months and 4 years so that production and processing can begin on-site in 2008, according to the operators.
United Food Technologies AG has long-standing experience in aquaculture technologies and operates internationally. The UFT technology is patented. "The caviar plant in Fulda/Germany run successfully using our technology and as such is unique and highly profitable", said UFT-CEO Christoph Hartung. "Profitability, protection of resources, sustainability and product quality are brought seamlessly together".
Sturgeon and caviar have become a rarity because of over-fishing. More and more companies, restaurants, hotels and airlines are turning to the high quality of aquaculture. When it comes to marketing the products from these sites, UFT offers operators and investors complete innovative solutions including the product marketing. The company has, for example, established a close partnership with Petrossian, one of the oldest and most highly regarded caviar companies in the world.
UFT´s customers are based worldwide. Besides this project in Jessen UFT realises two further projects for international investors at the moment. In the United States and Abu Dhabi UFT erects caviar plants with an overall capacity of app. 44 tons of Caviar per year.
