Johnson Controls Receives Award for Head Medium Display

Johnson Controls Automotive Experience received an Innovation Award from PSA Peugeot Citroën

Burscheid, Germany - 29 March 2010. Johnson Controls, a leading global supplier of automotive interior systems and electronics, received the 2010 Supplier Award in the category Innovation from Philippe Varin, Chairman of the Managing Board of PSA Peugeot Citroën, in Paris for its new Head Medium Display. The new system is currently available in the Peugeot 3008 and the Peugeot 5008 as standard equipment in the Exclusive version and optional in the Sport version. The award is given to PSA Peugeot Citroën's 14 best automotive suppliers in the categories of Quality, Innovation, Supply, Service and Cost Management.

The Head Medium Display consists of a transparent pane that is separately released from the instrument panel over the instrument cluster, enabling key vehicle information such as speed or distance readings to be displayed in the driver's primary field of vision. The projected image appears at a virtual distance of around 1.80 m, which the eye can read without accommodation time (time to focus). Drivers can perceive the information displayed much faster than from displays positioned outside their primary field of vision. With the Head Medium Display, Johnson Controls has developed a system that unleashes considerable cost-saving potential, as it requires no expensive or time-consuming adjustments, eliminates the need for specific coating on the windshield and can be adapted for use in other vehicles.

"We are pleased to be able to contribute to increased road safety with our Head Medium Display," said Jeff DeBest, Group Vice President and General Manager of Global Electronics for Johnson Controls Automotive Experience as he accepted the award on behalf of the project team of 70 Johnson Controls employees. "This display contributes to safety as drivers no longer need to take their eyes off the road. We are honoured to receive this award and to have worked with PSA in the development of this innovative product."
