European Green Capital on tour: Hamburg sends its "Train of Ideas" through Europe

The "Train of Ideas", this rolling ambassador of Hamburg, European Green Capital 2011, can be visited at Hamburg-Altona train station before beginning its journey through Europe.

The "Train of Ideas", a mobile exhibition that will be escorting Hamburg's ideas of sustainable cities across Europe for the next seven months, can be visited at Hamburg-Altona this Friday. Visitors can experience this interactive exhibition until 21 April. The train will then set off through 17 European cities. The first stop is Copenhagen, where it will remain from 26 to 29 April. The train will then travel on to Malmö, Gothenburg, Oslo, Zurich, Munich, Warsaw, Riga, Tallinn, Vienna, Barcelona, Marseille, Nantes, Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, Antwerp, and finally return to Hamburg.

More than 100 exponents from Hamburg and other European cities will be displayed. Stretching out over six containers, projects from the following fields will be displayed: "Urban Development and Living", "Mobility", "Energy and Climate Protection", "Nature and Parks", "Resource Protection and Business", and "Consumption". Hamburg is going to present major city planning projects and environmental protection schemes, among them HafenCity Hamburg and the Georgswerder Energy Hill.

The concept for the "Train of Ideas" was one of the reasons for the EU Commission awarding the title of "European Green Capital 2011" to Hamburg. The cities competing for the title had to prove their ability to transport the idea of the Green Capital to an international audience. What is more, Hamburg also succeeded in documenting the city's high ecological standards and its bold objectives for the future.
