In the final week of January 2025, monarchs from all the EU traveled to Poland for the commemorations observing the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. An official service was held on the same date as the 1945 liberation. Leaders of over 50 countries accompanied them. Among those in attendance were primarily King Charles, Queen Letizia and King Felipe VI of Spain and Prince Haakon of Norway.

A few days later Minister for Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, met in Warsaw with his Polish counterpart, to analyze the main challenges of the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union and to strengthen collaboration between Spain and Poland, two strategic partners in the European project.

The strength of our bilateral relationship and our shared commitment to European values drives us to continue working together for a future of greater cooperation and progress," Albares declared on Jan 29th, 2025 in Warsaw. The meeting highlighted the strong cultural and human connection between the two countries.
