New opal-glass production strengthens the Momignies plant

Gerresheimer invests in Belgian production for perfume and cosmetics packaging

The Gerresheimer Group, one of the leading international manufacturers of glass packaging for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, is expanding production in Belgium and thereby strengthening the future of Momignies as a production location. New high-performance smelting and production facilities were commissioned by the Gerresheimer subsidiary Nouvelles Verreries des Momignies S.A. on 19 January 2004. At the opening ceremony, Walloon Trade Minister Kubla expressed his pleasure about the investment and its importance for the local job market.

The high-performance new facilities, which replace an older plant, are likely to mean that the market importance of opal glass from Momignies grows significantly. In future it will be possible to produce annually around 150 million containers made of the fine white or cream-coloured shimmering special glass. Gerresheimer supplies the high-quality flacons, pots and vials to customers in the cosmetics industry worldwide.

At the same time the investment confirms the importance of the Belgian production location in the cosmetics sector of the Gerresheimer Group. With sophisticated design in glass, Momignies enjoys an excellent worldwide reputation in the field of perfumery and cosmetics. Gerresheimer offers these markets a complete service spectrum, ranging from creative development to elaborate shaping, colouring and finishing of glass in every conceivable variation.

"The technically advanced opal-glass plant not only complements our comprehensive product range in the cosmetics sector," says Bruno Bürkel, Excecutive Vice President "Moulded Glass Packaging Division" of the Gerresheimer Group: "In the future it will also enhance our ability to offer our customers the highest quality right across all product and service categories. In this, Momignies will remain a key production location."
