Fraport Traffic Figures - November 2005: Frankfurt Airport Enjoys Record Traffic Again in November / Daily Freight Throughput Climbs to More Than 8,100 Metric Tons

Frankfurt/Main - FRA/rap> Germany's biggest airport again registered peak traffic results for the reporting month of November 2005. Frankfurt Airport surpassed its existing November traffic records for passengers, airfreight tonnage, aircraft movements, as well as maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs). Furthermore, FRA achieved a new historic daily record on November 13, when 8,132 metric tons of airfreight were handled within a 24-hour period.

Last month, the number of passengers using FRA increased by 2.5 percent to 3,940,558 compared to November 2004. Airfreight tonnage grew at an even more impressive rate of nine percent to 173,815 metric tons.

Due to the phased closing of FRA's so-called overnight domestic airmail hub, overall airmail tonnage further declined by 12.2 percent to 8,767 metric tons compared to November 2004.

Aircraft movements rose by 1.3 percent to 39,728 takeoffs and landings in November 2005. MTOWs - important for calculating airport charges - grew by 1.6 percent to 2,245,839 metric tons.

From January to November 2005 Frankfurt Airport served 48,546,091 passengers, representing an increase of 2.2 percent compared to the same period in 2004. With 1,721,831 metric tons during the first 11 months of the year, FRA's airfreight tonnage jumped by 8 percent compared to 2004. Airmail dropped by 16.3 percent to 88,142 metric tons through to the end of November 2005. MTOWs climbed by 3.8 percent to 25,995,412 metric tons compared to the same period in 2004.

The Fraport Group's six airports welcomed a total of 5,138,961 passengers in November, down 6.9 percent from the same period in 2004. The main reason for this drop was Antalya Airport (AYT) in Turkey - where Fraport's passenger figures have declined since the opening of a second competing passenger terminal earlier this year. Thus, AYT only registered 117,009 passengers last month, a drop of 82.9 percent. Lima Airport (LIM) in Peru recorded 452,277 passengers, 10.9 percent more than in November 2004. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport (HHN), Fraport's low-cost airport in the Hunsrück region of Germany, enjoyed 13.0 percent growth in traffic to 229,856 passengers. Saarbrücken Airport's (SCN) traffic dropped by 5.4 percent to 28,984 passengers, while Hanover Airport (HAJ) saw its traffic jump by 6.3 percent to 371,516 passengers.
