Kapsch CarrierCom AG supports mobilkom austria in the first HSUPA Live Demonstration in Europe

Kapsch CarrierCom showed again its leading technology position: As technology partner of mobilkom austria - the Austrian wireless operator of the Telekom Austria Group (VSE:TKA; NYSE:TKA) - Kapsch CarrierCom presented Europe's first live demonstration of video up-load via the HSUPA technology (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) provided by Nortel. Picture and sound have been transmitted in real time by a data card.

On November 16th 2006, there has been a European technological premiere in Vienna: For the first time a live demonstration of video up-load via the HSUPA technology (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) was realized. This technology allows for up-load transmission rates of up to 1.4 Mbit/s, which represent the highest up-load speeds currently available in the UMTS-mobile communication networks. The enablers of this technological step have been Kapsch CarrierCom and Nortel - both technology partners of mobilkom austria. Nortel brought in the infrastructure for the live demonstration, while Kapsch CarrierCom as leading system integrator realised the setup.

HSUPA allows for up-load transmission rates of up to 1.4 Mbit/s, which are 22 times faster than UMTS. The technology enables the up-load of pictures and videos in a matter of seconds as well as mobile video streaming in real time.

As the first operator in Europe, mobilkom austria presented a live video upload using HSUPA, thereby firing the starting shot for previously unreached upload speeds of up to 1.4 Mbit/s. Especially in the business sector the ability to send presentations or photos outside the office is becoming increasingly important. "HSUPA represents the perfect uplink complement to HSDPA, enabling the uploading of large data volume in seconds which has been shown in the speed comparison to a usual UMTS upload. HSUPA offers an ideal basis for mobile working and will be available in the A1 network in the first half of 2007," says Ulrich Rokita, Head of Network Planning, mobilkom austria. In January 2006, mobilkom austria became one of the first operators in Europe to introduce an HSDPA network with downlink speeds of up to 1.8 Mbit/s. An upgrade of the network followed in June 2006, bringing download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbit/s. Meanwhile, HSDPA is available throughout Austria.
