EFIC-Grunenthal Grant 2008: Apply now!

Aachen, Germany, Young scientists from across Europe now have the chance to apply for grant support for carrying out projects on innovative and exploratory clinical and human experimental pain research. These annual grants totalling EUR 100,000 are provided by Grunenthal GmbH in cooperation with the European Federation of Chapters of the International Association for the Study of Pain (EFIC). Submissions will be accepted up to April 30th, 2008.

Interested young scientists can submit their application online. The application form, and more information on the EFIC-Grunenthal Grant, are available at: http://www.e-g-g.info.

The decision on the awarding of grants is made entirely by the EFIC Research Committee, consisting of internationally renowned specialists in the field of Pain Science and Medicine. The winners will be announced in summer 2008.

"This grant has been decisive in providing key funding at an early exploratory stage of our research. It has enabled us to develop a novel area of high-resolution brain stem imaging that we can now take forward into patient related research. We are very grateful to the EFIC-Grunenthal Committee for providing the necessary support", comments Professor Irene Tracey, Director of the Oxford Centre for Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Brain and Nuffield Professor of Anaesthetic Science, Departments of Anaesthetics and Clinical Neurology, Oxford University, United Kingdom and EFIC-Grunenthal Grant winner in 2005.

One of the winners in 2006, Dr. med. Christian Maihöfner of the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Institute for Physiology & Experimental Pathophysiology, Germany, said "As a young scientist the funding was very helpful to expand my research, and furthermore, it was a great chance to meet renowned international experts at the occasion of the prize award ceremony and talk to them in depth."
