Vitrum 2005 Glass Show

Hall 16/1 at Stand F 07-11

PADUA, Italy & WOODBURY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 2005--Isoclima S.p.A., under license from Research Frontiers Incorporated (Nasdaq: REFR), announced today that Isoclima will showcase its new second-generation SPD-Smart light control film at the Vitrum 2005 Glass Show being held in Milan, Italy from October 5-8, 2005. Isoclima's exhibit at Vitrum is in Hall 16/1 at Stand F 07-11.

This event represents the first public display of second-generation SPD-Smart film, and has been produced by Isoclima on large-scale roll-to-roll coating equipment. The film's characteristics include wide-widths (the film exhibited is 0.6 meters x 2.0 meters), fast switching speeds (1-3 seconds), wide range of light transmission, and excellent optical properties. Isoclima plans to introduce even wider films of up to 1.4 meters into the market.

Alberto Bertolini, General Director of Isoclima, noted: "This is the culmination of over three years of development work between Isoclima and Research Frontiers on SPD film and end-products. We have been working closely with other licensees of Research Frontiers as well as directly with our customers in the automotive industry on various projects incorporating SPD-Smart glass which we market under the trademark ChromaLite(TM). We also have been working to introduce other SPD product applications into the architectural and marine glass markets, because we see SPD technology having great potential there as well."

SPD-Smart windows allow users to instantly and precisely control the amount of light, glare and heat coming into a home, office, or vehicle by adjusting the light transmission of the SPD film used in these products. The darkness of SPD film and end-products can be adjusted automatically (using an ordinary photocell or other sensing device) or manually by simply turning a dial.

SPD film has wide applicability in a variety of SPD-Smart products including architectural, automotive, aircraft and marine windows, as well as in instantly adjustable variable tint eyewear such as sunglasses or ski goggles. In a window, sunroof, or other product using VaryFast(TM) SPD-Smart(TM) technology, the user can manually or automatically "tune" the amount of light, glare and heat coming into a home, office, aircraft, train or other vehicle. SPD-Smart windows, which can reduce energy consumption, also block over 99% of harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation to protect occupants and greatly reduce the fading of carpets, furniture, and artwork. About SPD Technology and Research Frontiers Incorporated

Research Frontiers Incorporated develops and licenses suspended particle device (SPD) technology used in VaryFast SPD-Smart light-control glass and plastic products. SPD technology, made possible by a flexible light-control film invented by Research Frontiers, allows users to instantly and precisely control the amount of light transmitted through glass or plastic, either manually or automatically. SPD technology has numerous product applications, including: SPD-Smart windows, skylights and interior partitions for homes and buildings; automotive windows, sunroofs, sunvisors, rear-view mirrors, instrument panels and navigation systems; aircraft windows; eyewear products; and flat panel displays for electronic products.

SPD-Smart film technology was awarded a "Best of What's New Award" from Popular Science magazine for home technology and was also named by the Society of Automotive Engineers' Aerospace Engineering magazine as one of the top new technologies. SPD technology is covered by over 450 patents and patent applications held by Research Frontiers worldwide. Currently 33 companies are licensed to use Research Frontiers' patented SPD light-control technology for SPD emulsions, film, and end-products.
